README Use the PV2XX command to download the firmware to the storage system and to perform the update. The PV2XX command can only be used if the firmware update has been downloaded to the system. If the firmware is not available on your system, you can download it from support.dell.com. Contents: 1. Compatibility / Minimum Requirements 2. Installation 3. Command Line options 4. Steps for Firmware Download 5. Known Issues 6. Requirements Compatibility / Minimum Requirements: 1.This release is intended for PV220S storage enclosure hardware. 2.This utility needs Adaptec driver version 1.1.4 and above but the native RHL driver version is 1.1.2. This driver needs to be installed from support.dell.com before running this utility. Installation (Linux): 1. Before upgrading the EMM firmware, ensure that all I/O activity is suspended. Note: Before you continue to step 2 you must be logged in as a user with super user permissions. 2. Create a directory on your local Linux file system called /usr/local/pv2xx. Type the following command to create the directory: Command: mkdir -p /usr/local/pv2xx 3. Download the latest firmware file to the directory you just created on your hard drive. The file downloaded is a self-extracting executable, named FUPG_E??.exe, where ??=release number of the firmware. To unzip in Linux use the unzip command. Example Command: unzip FUPG_E17.exe Example of files contained in download are: ReadmeE17.txt - ASCII Text file: Description and download instructions pv22xs_E17.bin - Binary file: EMM firmware 4. After the files have been unpacked, you may delete the self-extracting file downloaded in step 3. 5. To update the Enclosure Management Module (EMM) firmware: a. Download the pv2XX utility and copy it into the directory that you created in step 2. b. Uncompress the PV2XXL??.gz file where ??=release number. Use the tar command as follows: Example command: tar -zxvf PV2XXL??.gz c. Change the permissions to "execute" on the binary by typing in the following commands: Commands: cd /usr/local/pv22xx chmod +x pv2XX Command Line options: ======================================================================== PV2XX - Firmware Download Program Dell Inc - All Rights Reserved. 2004 ======================================================================== Usage: PV2XX | PV2XX -h Provides detailed help information Usage: PV2XX -ver Provides program version information Usage: PV2XX -i [-v] Provides inventory information of all identified PV22XS enclosures -v Provides detailed inventory information -s Proceeds without user intervention. Assumes default options Usage: PV2XX -e -f [-s] Downloads firmware to specific enclosure identified by service tag -s Proceeds without user intervention. Assumes default options Usage: PV2XX -a -f [-s] Downloads firmware to all enclosures compatible with the image file -s Proceeds without user intervention. Assumes default options =========================================================================== Steps for Firmware Download 1.Inventory. Example: >>PV2XX -i Sample output: Enclosure [1] Enclosure Type: DELL PV22XS Service Tag: X03A53 Firmware Version: E.10 The Service tag and Firmware version values will be of the PV220s discovered by the utility. It may be different from the above sample output. 2. Firmware Download: Example: >> PV2XX -e X03A53 -f PV22XS_E17.bin Use the Enclosure service tag displayed in inventory output for identifying the enclosure. If there is no service tag, the utility displays a temporary service tag during inventory information. The format for temporary service tag is TEMP0, TEMP1 etc. This value should be used as service tag for updating the firmware on that enclosure. Firmware Download on all attached PV22XS. Example: >> PV2XX -a -f PV22XS_E17.bin Known Issues 1. In Joined bus/Clustering mode, firmware is downloaded to both EMMs automatically (assuming that the second EMM is installed) In Split bus mode, however, updating firmware on one EMM does not automatically update the other EMM. Therefore, in order to update both EMMs, the user must download directly through the cable to each EMM. 2.Firmware download when both cluster nodes are in Active mode is not supported, and may cause unknown effects. Firmware update should be run only from the Active node of an Active/Passive cluster. 3.Service tag for 220S/ 221S is case sensitive. Make sure to use correct case while using service tag for firmware Download. 4.If Dell PowerVault 220S/ 221S firmware update is interrupted before successful completion, then next time the Dell PowerVault 220S/ 221S firmware update package is run, it will show Dell PowerVault 220S/ 221S Kernel version as a Dell PowerVault 220S/ 221S Firmware version for the enclosure where firmware update was interrupted 5.This utility may display the debug messages generated by OS while running inventory and firmware update options. 6.configurations with following RAID controllers are not supported on RHL7.X PERC 2/Si,PERC 2/QC, PERC 3/Si,PERC 3/Di Requirements: 1."libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3" is required for running this application. If this library is not found on the system, the following error will appear. "Error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory" Please install "Compat -libstdc++ RPM" from RedHat.com or RedHat CD if you see this error. 2. ====================================================================== FIRMWARE AND DRIVER REQUIREMENTS FOR THE PERC 2/SC, 2/DC, 3/SC, 3/DC, 3/DCL, 3/QC, 4/SC, 4/DC, 4e/DC, 4/Di, 4/IM, 4e/Si, 4e/Di, CERC ATA100/4ch, LSI 1020, and LSI 1030 CONTROLLERS ====================================================================== The firmware and drivers listed in the following table refer to the minimum supported version.
